Cash boost for Sunderland digital innovation

Date 17 Sep 2006

A share of £1.2 million will be given to Sunderland City Council to develop projects using new and evolving technology and create a ‘wired up community’. Sunderland is one of 10 national areas to benefit from the cash, and the only one from the North East. Sunderland's project `Where people matter` has explored innovative ways to reach disadvantaged groups. Understanding that one approach will not suit all hard to reach groups, the City Council has come up with a range of proposals to get IT to its residents. As a result, community IT facilities will be found in both traditional and non-traditional settings such as village halls, GP surgeries, public houses as well as mobile ICT facilities.
