Tees Valley Arts are celebrating after they were awarded a grant of £100,000 to help them continue their creative activities in the local community.
The grant was awarded from the J Paul Getty Jr Charitable Trust, which aims to fund well managed projects which aim to help relieve poverty and support disadvantaged individuals.
The money, which will be awarded over the next 2 years will go towards to “Moving On” project, which helps young people in local authority care get involved in creative arts projects.
Rowena Sommerville, director of Tees Valley Arts commented: “We are very pleased to have been awarded this money which will allow is to achieve good, positive and progressive work with very vulnerable young people in the Tees valley.”
All five Tees Valley boroughs – Darlington, Hartlepool, Redcar &Cleveland and Stockton will be involved in the scheme, which was piloted in 2010.
Last year Tees Valley Arts worked with 8 young people in care, and helped them improve their confidence and maturity to move towards vocational choices.
