Big sub-sea deals for Tyneside engineers

A North East precision engineering firm has secured two new contracts, worth in excess of £4 million, to supply sub-sea components to the oil and gas industry.

Express Engineering, which operates from Team Valley in Gateshead, is to make parts for Norwegian engineering and construction firm Aker Solutions and American machinery and oil services technology company FMC Technologies.

The deals continue a run of success in winning oil and gas sector business which has led Express Engineering to increase its workforce by around to 125. The company has also taken on four new apprentices and invested more than £500,000 in new equipment over the past 18 months.

William Barclay, Head of Sales with Express Engineering, said: "This demonstrates the continued confidence which Aker Solutions has in our products and services and underpins our accelerated growth plans to increase our capacity and capability to support the oil and gas Industry in the North East.

"We have enjoyed an excellent working relationship with FMC for many years and are delighted to have secured another significant agreement which gives us stability and a firm foundation to build the organisation and strengthen our team."

John Paul Wilkinson from FMC, said: "We have worked with Express Engineering over the past few years and have always received quality products which meet our delivery needs. The next logical step was to formalise an agreement."

Express Engineering has also enjoyed high profile deals with the defence industry, securing a contract to make complex fuselage components for the new F-35 Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter.
