An award-winning video production company has just moved to new premises with help from its alma mater. Primate Productions has recently relocated to offices in North Shield's Saville Exchange provided by Northumbria University's Enterprise Campus.

Primate Productions was founded in 2007 when five of Northumbria University's Media Production undergraduates and a social enterprise specialist decided to get together as a workers' cooperative.

Walter Young, Director at Primate Productions, said: "As a company set up by a group of people who love making films, our aim is to grow our business by providing high quality film-making and excellent value for money, whilst having a positive effect on local communities through community-based projects."

Primate Productions was awarded the ‘Design and Creative Company' highly commended award at the Business Plan competition run by Northumbria University's Enterprise Campus last year, and has since taken advantage of the resources and support available from the Enterprise team.

Business partnerships manager at Northumbria University's Enterprise Campus, Roger Candy, said: "We have been incredibly impressed by Primate Productions passion, creativity and great business skills. It is great to be involved with a company that uses its skills and expertise to help the community in such a positive way."

Three of the directors at Primate Productions - Ema Lea, Jack Sands and Katie Connon - played a major part in the production of the film ‘Gannin' Yem', which will be screened at the Northern Lights Film Festival later in the year.
