A film made by local production company, Algernon Pictures, was recently shortlisted as one of the final nominees for Empire Magazine's ‘Done in 60 Seconds' short film competition. Algernon Pictures' one minute re-working of Ingmar Bergman's classic ‘The Seventh Seal' was screened at the awards ceremony in London before a crowd of filmmakers and actors including the likes of Matt Damon and Ewan McGregor.

Algernon Pictures was set up by three Northumbria University Media Production graduates, Dan Horn, Jonathan Ranson and Chris McQuillan, over a year ago. Their client list already includes the NHS, theatres around the North East and smaller independent companies.

As well as the Empire Magazine awards screening, the three film fanatics' work has been on national television, as its short film ‘The Boolean Operators' was selected for the BBC Blast initiative and screened in 2007.
