Google steals the world's words

Search engine giant Google decided to claim copyright over everything on the internet this week with the launch of its new web browser, Chrome.

Although the browser itself was greeted with a reasonable amount of praise, many users were scared off by the legal implications of the End User Licence Agreement, which claimed "a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free, and non-exclusive license to reproduce, adapt, modify, translate, publish, publicly perform, publicly display and distribute any Content which you submit, post or display on or through, the Services."

As reported by the BBC, this was spotted pretty quickly and removed by Google, to be replaced with a much more sensible version. The current EULA does not take ownership of the entire World Wide Web, your Facebook page included...
