			<description><![CDATA[<p>Final approval was given last week to legislation that commits Britain to cutting greenhouse gas emissions by 80% by 2050. The Climate Change Bill makes Britain the first country to have a legally binding framework on climate change policy.</p><p>The Climate Change Bill offers measures which are expected to help combat the threat of climate change. These include reducing CO2 emissions by at least 26% by 2020 and enabling the quicker and simpler introduction of additional emissions trading, waste reduction, renewable energy and transport schemes.</p>]]></description>

			<title><![CDATA[Durham graduate wins prize for a powerful idea ]]></title>

			<description><![CDATA[<p>The Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) North East has recognised a Durham graduate's work on renewable energy generation by awarding a prize for his efforts.</p><p>Earlier this year, Will Coombs graduated with a First Class MEng Honours degree in General Engineering at Durham University. As part of his work in the final year of the programme, Will undertook a project which focused on micro-hydro electricity generation in the Lake District. His course leaders were so impressed with the standard of his work that he was nominated for the annual ICE North East award - which he won.</p>]]></description>

			<description><![CDATA[<p>NEWHeat - an initiative funded by One NorthEast to encourage businesses across the region to switch their heat energy supply to wood heat - has teamed up with the Northumberland Lights festival to offer cyclists the chance to experience a night time cycle ride at Kielder Water &amp; Forest Park on Wednesday 12 November.</p><p>The Wood Rush cycle ride takes cyclists from Kielder Castle to Leaplish Waterside Park and back. The event has been designed to promote NEWHeat's mission to change energy usage and reduce carbon emissions - a philosophy shared by Northumberland Lights organisers, who use bio-diesel generators to fuel the festival programme.</p>]]></description>
