Businesses help One Green Paper Clip Challenge

Students from Newcastle College's School of Business and Care recently raised Â£500 for the Mosaic appeal, part of Barnardo's Children's Charity.

Starting with just one green paper clip, the idea behind the challenge was to undertake a series of swaps, receiving higher value items with each swap. As part of the project the students visited local businesses asking for swaps or donations and managed to secure vouchers from TGI Friday, Collectables and John Lewis as well as several items of jewellery and toys.

College course receives web services boost

A financial web services specialist has offered support to students enrolled on a technology foundation degree at Gateshead College.

Managing Director at Sunderland-based Unified Software, George Barron, has suggested offering placement opportunities and the possibility of a full time role for students completing the two-year Digital Application Development Foundation Degree.

Masters talent offered to local businesses

Newcastle University Business School is inviting businesses in the North East to take part in their student placement programme.

They currently have 50 students taking part in their accredited programmes, who are required to complete a CIPD Management Research Report on an organisational HR problem.

YENE launches new business benefit

Enterprise education charity Young Enterprise North East (YENE) has launched a new volunteer benefit in their continued bid to encourage businesses not to give up on training during the credit crunch.

YENE will now award volunteers across its 11 programmes with a free personal development training programme (PDP).

Former college pupil becomes lecturer

A former pupil from a local college is now lecturing a foundation degree at the same college.

Paula McCormack completed a counselling qualification at TyneMet College as part of a wider skills remit for her business. Three years later Paula is now lecturing a foundation degree in Leadership and Management at the college in Wallsend.

Business School celebrates 20 years at a distance

Students from across the country came together recently to celebrate two decades of Durham Business School's distance learning programmes.

Three former students who were part of the first ever course 20 years ago attended a special dinner at St Aidan's College as guests of honour to celebrate the success of the programme.
