Heritage Craft Alliance: Repairing and Maintaining Leaded Glass Panels

This course will provide you with the basic skills and knowledge so that you can repair and care for leaded glass work.

The course is suitable for beginners who wish to get hands on with leaded glass and for intermediate craftspeople, who wish to learn more about tools, techniques and care of historic and contemporary glass work. Caring for older glass requires good practice techniques - you will learn about these on this course.

You will learn how to cut, solder, finish and assemble leaded glass work. 

What you will learn and practice:

Tools and techniques: (hands on craft work)

·Choosing the correct glass

·Choosing the correct lead cames

·Glass cutting and grinding

·Cutting lead

·setting out lead work

·Soldering

·Bracing a panel

·Finishing

Repairing leaded panels:

·How to disassemble panels

·Replacing pieces of glass in panels

·Repairing lead work

·Re-assembling a panel

Caring for older glass work:

·Cleaning old panels

·Re finishing

·Protecting old panels

You can bring small panels to the workshop if you wish to use these to practice repair techniques or simply to get advice on how they should be cared for.
