Newcastle stroke victims to headline health campaign

Two local men are set to be the faces of a new healthy living campaign launched by Sport England’s Everyday Sport Campaign. Tom Warwick, 68, and Andy Robertson, 55, will star on billboard and poster adverts all over town as part of a bid to highlight the importance of exercise later in life.

For the past month Sport England has been searching all corners of Newcastle for the perfect Everyday Sport Hero. This is someone who is physically active and inspires other people to live a healthier lifestyle. When Tom and Andy both made the grade Sport England decided to choose two Heroes. The pair were forced to give up work after suffering from strokes, and started exercising to improve their health.

The North East has been chosen as one of four flagship areas for Sport England’s Everyday Sport campaign and Tom and Andy are set to star in adverts that will feature in a high profile campaign and their story will be used to inspire the people of the North East to get active.

Sport England’s Everyday Sport campaign is all about small steps making a big difference and can mean different things to different people, from taking the stairs instead of the lift or getting off the bus a stop early to joining a sports club/team or registering for an exercise class.

Judith Rasmussen, Regional Director North East, Sport England, said: “Sport England is working hard to provide opportunities for people to take part in sport and physical activity and the Everyday Sport heroes will help inspire others to get active by showing how easy and simple it is through real-life experiences."
