‚??Ideas spotters‚?? arrive in South Tyneside in search of resident‚??s ideas for business

A group of eight “idea spotters” have been out and about in South Tyneside asking local people to bring them their business ideas. Travelling into South Shields on the Shields Ferry on Wednesday, and visiting Hebburn and Jarrow en route, the group were promoting the South Tyneside Means Business campaign, which encourages business start ups and growth in the borough. The idea spotters also offered local people the chance to win an MP3 player in exchange for their best ideas.

South Tyneside Means Business is a £16.2million partnership initiative, involving public and private sector organisations, which were awarded the funding through the Local Enterprise Growth Initiative (LEGI) last July.

Councillor Paul Waggott, leader of South Tyneside Council, said: "Being awarded the £16.2million last year was a great opportunity for the borough. We hope to inspire people from all walks of life to think about starting or growing a business and have help and support available from our team of experts, who can guide you through every step of that journey. We'd encourage people to get in touch and talk through their business ideas."

A local advertising campaign has recently been launched to support South Tyneside Means Business and the first of three Business Matters outlets opens in Market Square, South Shields on Monday 13 August – with two more to follow in Station Road, Hebburn and Grange Road, Jarrow this summer. These will be staffed by experts offering help and advice on all matters relating to business. A dedicated help line and website also offer advice and information.
