Durham DJ brings fun to business

Date 11 Dec 2007

A business launched by a former DJ is taking the corporate entertainment scene by storm. Prime Entertainment is the creation of 44-year-old Nigel Kirkup, from Ebchester, in County Durham.

Prime Entertainment runs team-building and corporate fun nights across the UK. Its customers have included Lloyds TSB, International Paint, Deloitte UK, Boehringer Ingelheim, Scolarest, and the British Army. Many of the theme events include appearances by look-a-likes - including 7ft 3in Bond villain Jaws look-a-like Gary Tiplady, from Newcastle, and Shirley Bassey impersonator Maxine Barry, winner of Stars in Their Eyes.

Nigel said: "It has to be said, I work in a surreal world. It's not everyone who arrives at a job with Jaws, out of the Bond movies, on one arm and Shirley Bassey on the other."

Prime Entertainment provides regular work for many self-employed entertainers, including magicians, fire-eaters, stilt-walkers, and look-a-likes, as well as croupiers for casino nights and waiters for portable cocktail bars.

Nigel said: "We are succeeding because we never stand still - people always want something new, something different, so that's what we try to give them. It's a cliché, but it's all about the 'Wow' factor. People want a night to remember."

Next spring, Prime Entertainment will launch a new attraction - a mobile nine-hole crazy golf course on a North East theme, with holes featuring the Tyne Bridge and Angel of the North.
