North East celebrates energy success

Date 18 Dec 2007

Two North East companies have been praised at an event to celebrate the achievements of the UK energy sector. Northern Offshore Federation Energy (NOF) honoured leading players in the oil, gas and related sectors at its annual awards and dinner.

The Company of the Year title was won by The Engineering Business, based in Northumberland. The firm designs, manufactures and develops offshore and seabed equipment for the oil and gas, defence, submarine telecom and renewable offshore power generating industries.

Dr Tony Trapp, managing director of The Engineering Business, said: "We strive to offer all of our customers an exceptional level of service and believe that a key part of this is the continual development of both our products and staff. We have worked on a number of national and international projects and are thrilled to be representing the North East in this way."

Express Engineering of Gateshead, which manufactures machined components, won the Progressing People award.

George Rafferty, Chief Executive of NOF Energy, said: "We congratulate all the winners who reflect the strength and breadth of companies in the oil and gas sector and its supply chain. "NOF Energy's annual awards serve to showcase excellence in the industry and to recognise and reward the substantial contribution that companies and individuals in this field make to the economic well-being of the UK with their involvement in domestic projects and contracts across the world.

"Our award winners prove we can look to the future with confidence as they demonstrate the capabilities, skills, talent and innovation which exist to grasp the wealth of opportunities which lie ahead."
