Developers driving forward to build new golf course

A Teesside development company is now on course to realise its goal of developing a brand new golf course. Thornaby-based Howson Developments Ltd hopes to create a championship-standard course on 150 acres of land next to the current Kirklevington driving range at Castle Leavington, near Yarm.

The application to build a new course and clubhouse comes with significant public support. A community consultation was held earlier in the year, with support from Business Link, and was attended by local residents. After the positive response from the public, the team is preparing to submit a planning application to Stockton Borough Council for the scheme.

Project manager Fred Bynoe said: "With a strong emphasis on nurturing and supporting young golf talent in the Tees Valley, we plan to work with local schools and also develop a balanced membership structure that will include individuals, families, corporate and social categories.

"Careful attention will be paid to deliver sensitive environmental improvements that will enhance the appearance of the overall area and will have a positive impact on the local vicinity."

Howson Developments has worked alongside golf architect Jonathan Gaunt, who has developed 30 courses, two of which are in the North East - Durham's Ramside Hall and Northumberand's Linden Hall.
