Two decades of investment

Tyne and Wear Development Company

Date 11 Aug 2006
Tyne and Wear Development Company

Tyne and Wear Development Company has helped a wide range of investors – large and small, inward and indigenous - since it was set up in 1986.

Many of the biggest inward investors to arrive in Tyne and Wear during that time have benefited from our support – from Nike in Sunderland to GE Money in North Tyneside.

GE Money, one of the world's leading finance providers, arrived at the Cobalt Business Park in summer 2005, creating 500 jobs with the opening of a new contact centre. Tyne and Wear Development Company was able to assist with the move, identifying suitable premises and providing key details about the region and its workforce.

New Logic is another to have benefited. The firm moved to the region from Milton Keynes in 2004 and hasn't looked back. After investing £3 million in a 55,000 sq ft facility on Boldon Business Park, it has increased its workforce to 300 following a series of major account wins.

Neil Shotton, chief operating officer, said: “We have been enormously impressed by the quality of staff. We would not have enjoyed the success without the efforts of our staff and the assistance of local business support agencies.

As well as a conscientious workforce that is good at dealing with customers, we needed to find suitable premises at the right price and have been able to find everything in Tyne and Wear.”
