A major drive begins today to boost tourism and visitors to the Tees Valley. New organisation visitTeesvalley is a partnership between tourism, businesses and the public sector, and will help to direct changes and improvements to grow the visitor economy and create new jobs.

Tourism and leisure activity in the Tees Valley is a key contributor to the economic regeneration of the area, and it already generates almost £540m a year and directly or indirectly supports more than 11,000 jobs.

David Kelly, Chairman of visitTeesvalley, said: "This new organisation supports the strategy developed by regional development agency ONE North East for maximising the potential of the tourism industry across the region. "We have a strong track record in the Tees Valley of partnership, with the five local authorities and Tees Valley Tourism Bureau working closely together and with local businesses for a number of years.  visitTeesvalley will build on this and will increase the involvement of the private sector in identifying future development, providing support for businesses and promoting the Tees Valley to key markets."
