Newcastle Building Society have come to the rescue of Gateshead Cleveland Hall Under 15 Girls team, whose new football strip was thrown out with the rubbish. The Building Society has awarded the team a grant of £250 to buy a new strip, from its fund at the Community Foundation.

Cleveland Hall U15 Girls team manager, Claire Forrester, sent out an urgent plea to local companies via the bdaily in September when she found out the girl’s new kit had been thrown away by builders renovating her home. Claire said: “I was devastated when I found out what had happened, but thanks to the bdaily and the generosity of Newcastle Building Society, the girls have a brand new strip and won’t have to make do with wearing last season’s oversized boys’ kit! It really makes a difference to their confidence on the pitch.”

The team currently lies second in the Durham County FA Girls Mini Soccer U16 League. Amanda Douglas, Newcastle Building Society Gateshead Branch Manager, went along to watch the team beat Willington 2-1. She said: “Each year the Society donates up to £100,000 to worthy causes in areas where we have a branch presence. A key criteria for this funding is to encourage and nurture young talent in our communities, so it is wonderful to see first hand the benefits of our support. It was great to see the team win on Saturday and I wish them the best of luck for the rest of the season.”
